Angelbert Metoyer's Force of Nature

This is the first of four select presentations of new work to be held over the coming year at Paul Rodgers/9W Gallery, culminating in a public exhibtion of works drawn from the series.

Proud exponent of his Creole origins, Angelbert Metoyer presents five new paintings on canvas and paper in New York. People are standing in front of a shattered landscape, driven onto the highways toward flat horizons. Is there a return from exodus? Angelbert tells us that this has always been, is prefigured in his paintings, and that his art reckons with the force of nature.
"There is nothing wrong with being a serious man" (Nancy Kienholz in conversation with the artist).
