HUMAN=NATURE, Alan Sonfist to participate in Group Show at the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts

Within the world of art a new model of creation has been growing: one of collaboration, interdisciplinary investigation and community involvement; one in which the artist acts as an agent for change. Human=Nature brings together a diverse group of eight internationally-known artists who create art to confront and respond to environmental concerns. While nature and ecological systems play a large role, the environments these artists draw upon for inspiration include the cultural, social and political forces that affect their own lives as well as all life on the planet. The work that results takes a variety of forms from photography and sculpture to site-specific installation and interactive new media and often incorporates the artist's collaboration with specialists from fields as diverse as geology, biology, architecture and information technology. Art has always played a critical role in our cultural evolution and innovation. Now more than ever, artists can help us envision the kind of world that is possible; Human=Nature celebrates this possibility. HUMAN=NATURE opens this Friday, June 30, 5-8pm at the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts Artist Talk Saturday, July 1, 2pm. Guest-curated by Victoria Anstead. Featuring MICHELE BRODY, JACKIE BROOKNER, MICHAEL FLOMEN, YUMI KORI, ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG, SEED COLLECTIVE, ALAN SONFIST, and STEPHEN VITIELLO.
